When selecting upholstery fabric, there are many considerations to take into account. From texture and color to performance qualities such as stain resistance, fading, soiling, easy cleanability and more. There are also a variety of weaves and constructions available. The fabric you choose will have a direct impact on the look and feel of your furniture.
Whether you are looking for a sleek design that emphasises the fine details or a soft design that calls to be touched, we have a wide selection of fabrics and leathers to choose from. We have more than 120 different fabric samples that you can order and explore in the comfort of your own home.
You will find a wide range of colors, patterns, textures and materials in our fabric library, each offering its own unique touch to your furniture. We have everything from delicate woven and linen fabrics to leather and durable synthetics. You can easily match these fabrics to our leather and vinyl selections for an all-encompassing, matching set of seating.
The material you choose for your upholstery will also affect the overall look and longevity of your chair or sofa. Most of these fabrics are designed to withstand heavy use and daily contact. This means that they need to be strong and sturdy. The fabric must be able to support people sitting on it as well as all of the things that are placed on it such as books, papers, laptops, tablets, and more. The best upholstery fabrics are able to hold up to this kind of wear and tear while still maintaining their beauty.
Choosing a fade resistant fabric is vitally important for any furniture that will be exposed to a lot of sunlight. The sun emits both UV rays and visible light that cause dyes within the fabric to break down over time. This process is known as photo-degradation and will eventually cause the fabric to fade and lose its color over time. Sunbrella fabrics are made with Color to the Core technology that ensures each individual yarn is saturated with pigment and protected from fading.
Another consideration when choosing upholstery fabric is the thickness and texture. Thicker fabrics are more substantial and offer a richer look and feel to your furniture. They can also be more supportive and help to keep the structure of your furniture in place. On the other hand, a softer, lighter fabric may be more breathable and more comfortable to sit in.
We have a large selection of melange fabrics to choose from that are both thick and soft. These include Tonica and Hallingdal which are both 100% wool fabrics with a tight weave and are rated for 45,000 Martindale cycles. The grey heather tones on both of these fabrics provide a classic, timeless look.
We also have Atlas which is a piece-dyed melange textile that was designed by Margrethe Odgaard for Kvadrat. This fabric uses multiple yarn colors in both the warp and weft directions. The color combinations offer a fresh melange look that complements other melange fabrics in the Kvadrat collection.
